  1. BGDO Award 2017 - 2018


Objective: to stimulate clinical, translational and fundamental scientific research work in the field of Gastro intestinal & Digestive Oncology, performed in Belgium.

Amount: € 2500 each.

Application deadline: 15 December 2017.

Description: The Award will be accorded to a researcher or a team of researcher (one individual age< 40 years) in the field of digestive oncology who propose an original research project that will be conducted in an outstanding manner in Belgium and may have a significant impact on our knowledge and/or management of gastrointestinal cancers.

At least one of the researchers per team should be a member of the BGDO.

The project should be realistically achievable and completed within two years. The results of the project(s) that will be awarded with the grant, will have to be presented at a future BGDO meeting.

Documents to be submitted:

Projects should be clearly presented in a max four A4 pages file according to the following criteria:

  • title and summary of the project + 3 key words (max 1 page)
  • background, rationale, presentation, methodology of the project (2 pages)
  • potential impact and perspectives of the project (1/2 page)
  • 3-5 relevant publications related to the project, to the candidate and to the laboratory/team involved
  • Each candidate should provide his full curriculum vitae.

BASL Case Presentation Award

Objective: to award the best clinical case presentation during the BASL Wintermeeting.

Amount: 250€

Application deadline: October 1st 2017, via the BASL secretary (christophe.moreno@erasme.ulb.ac.be)

Document to be submitted to the BASL secretary: an interesting case history, diagnostic process, challenging treatment summarized in max. 1 page, style Times New Roman or Arial, size 12, single spaced) with a challenging title and (co)-author list

Conditions:

  1. For the first author who presents her/his case her/himself
  2. No age restriction
  3. Registered member of the BASL at the moment of presentation

 

MSD-Awards for best clinical and basic publication of 2016

Objective: to award the best clinical and basic publication in the field of Hepatology during the preceding year, i.e. 2016.

Amount: 1250€ each

  2. The author should be registered member of the BASL at submission

  4. The awards are given at the BASL Winter Meeting and are offered to the prize winners only if they are present (not a representative)

 

BASL research grant

Objective: to support 2 original research projects each year in the field of Hepatology (basic or clinical)

Amount: 2.500€ each

Application deadline: October 1st 2017, via the BASL secretary (christophe.moreno@erasme.ulb.ac.be)

Conditions:

  1. The work must be performed at a Belgian institution (hospital or university)
  2. The research proposal must be written in English
  3. The applicant should be holder of a university degree in medicine or in biomedical sciences
  4. The applicant must not be older than 45 years when applying for the grant
  5. The applicant must be registered member of the BASL at application
  6. The grant money is divided into two parts of € 1.250 each, the second part being awarded only under the conditions mentioned in point 7.
  7. The grant holder commits himself to present the results of his work at the BASL Winter Meeting within 2 years after having received the first part of the grant money. Passing this delay or refusing to present the results of the work will automatically suspend the payment of the second part of the grant money.
  8. The grants will be awarded during the annual BASL Winter Meeting by the President of the BASL. The presence of the grant winners at the BASL Winter Meeting is required to receive the grant. The non-compliance with this condition will result in the loss of the grant.

  1. Belgian Helicobacter Pylori Study Group (BHpSG)

 

The BHpSG takes the opportunity to examine each application submitted for works, studies or protocols in the "field" of Helicobacter species. Usually one or two projects are completely or partially supported by our group in the last years.

Information and rules

Article 1: The "Georges Brohée Prize" has been created in order to reward the best research work in the field of Gastroenterology in its broadest sense.

Article 2: The prize is biennial. Its amount, determined by the board of directors, will be announced at the beginning of each two-year period. If the prize is not awarded, its amount will be added to the capital of the "Fonds Georges Brohée".

Article 3: Candidates must have the Belgian Nationality or have done their research work in Belgium; they must be younger than 40 years at the date of receipt of their work.

Article 4: The research work has to be typewritten or printed. A Curriculum vitae of the responsible author must be included. The application should be addressed to the Secretary of the "Fonds Georges Brohée": Dr Ivan Borbath, Service de Gastroentérologie, Cliniques Universitaires Saint Luc, avenue Hippocrate 10, 1200 Bruxelles (Tel. 02.764.28.22. Fax 02.764.89.27), before the first of January of each even year. (for the period 2016-2017:  01-01-2018). Thereafter, the number of copies for the members of the jury will be specified.

Article 5: The prize may not be awarded to a research work, previously rewarded by a prize equal or superior to 5.000,00 €.

Article 6: Previous publications will be accepted if their dates of printing do not exceed 4 years before submission for the prize.

Article 7: Submitted work must be written in Dutch, English or French with a summary in English and include all original articles of the author, related to the work, in a single scientific brochure.

Article 8: The prize cannot be divided but it can acknowledge the work of several authors; it will be awarded only to the responsible author, with the written consent of the co-authors.

Article 9: The rewarded work has to published in Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica (cf article 10).

Article 10: The responsible author of the crowned work should submit his manuscript of about 10 double-space typed pages, in English, to the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial office of Acta Gastro-Enterologica Belgica. He/she can do so by submitting the manuscript online at: http://gastro-enterologica.universa.be.

This commitment is a prerequisite for the attribution of the prize and will be fulfilled within 3 months after reception of the letter announcing the decision of the Jury to the prize-winner.

Article 11: Composition of the Jury is decided by the General Assembly and will consist of 3 members of the « Fonds Georges Brohée » + experts. The decision of the Jury is without appeal.

  1. BIRD grant for new researchers

 

As from 2012 on the BIRD offers BIRD grants for New Researchers.

Amount : 6000 € This grant will be paid in 3 times : project started, project completed, project published.

Deadline : annually before end of January.

Requirements : Projects should be maximum 3 A4 pages in length ; should contain a clear plan with time lines.

Projects will be reviewed by board members and at least one external reviewer. The age limit is the certificate of gastroenterology + 5 years

  1. BWGE research grant


Objective: to support each year 3 original research projects in the field of Hepatology and Gastroenterology (basic and/or clinical)

Amount: € 2.500 each

Application deadline:  December 15 of each year

Conditions:

  1. The work must be performed at a Belgian institution (hospital or university)
  2. The research proposal must be written in English
  3. The applicant should be holder of a master degree in medicine or in biomedical sciences
  4. The applicant must not be older than 40 years when applying for the grant
  5. The grant holder commits himself to present the results of his work at the BWGE within 2 years after having received the grant money.
  6. The grants will be awarded during the annual BWGE Meeting by the President of the BWGE. The presence of the grant winners at the BWGE Meeting is required to receive the grant. The non-compliance with this condition will result in the loss of the grant.

  7. Jury: The jury is composed of the members of the BWGE Steering Committee and 1 external reviewer previously appointed by the Steering Committee. Each project is scored from 1 to 5 points by all members of the Steering Committee and by the external reviewer. The average score of the steering committee members accounts for 75% and the score of the external reviewer for 25% of the final score. If the jury decides that none of the projects reaches a sufficient scientific level, the grants will not be awarded.

    1. Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica (AGEB) - BWGE grant


    NO SPECIFIC APPLICATION REQUIRED 

    Objective: to support each year 1 original research paper in the field of Hepatology and Gastroenterology (basic and/or clinical) published in Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica

    Amount: € 2.500

    Application deadline:  none, the Editor in Chief of Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica will choose the best research paper of the year (the year preceding the BWGE)

    Conditions:
  1. The work must be performed at a Belgian institution (hospital or university)
  2. The grant will be awarded during the annual BWGE Meeting by the President of the BWGE. The presence of the grant winner at the BWGE Meeting is required to receive the grant. The non-compliance with this condition will result in the loss of the grant.

  3. Jury: The jury is composed of Editor in Chief and his associate-editors of Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica 



    1. a. BSGIE Research Grant


    Objective: to reward the best research project in the field of gastrointestinal diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy by young endoscopists practicing in Belgium.

    Amount: 5000 euro

    Rules:
  4. The BSGIE grant aims at rewarding the best research project in the field of gastrointestinal diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy.
  5. The grant will be awarded annually. The Board of the BSGIE determines its amount. It will be announced during the BSGIE session at the Belgian Week of Gastroenterology.
  6. The applicants must be member of the BSGIE at the time of the grant application. The research must be performed in Belgium. The maximum age for application is 40 years.
  7. The grant may not be awarded to a project already awarded by another grant. The grant may not be divided, but it may reward a teamwork. It will be rewarded to the main applicant with written consent of the co-investigators.
  8. The grant application should be written in English, with a summary in English. It must precise the aim, material and methods, and 2 to 3 pages of comments underlining the potential impact of the research. The main applicant should also include an updated curriculum vitae.
  9. The jury consists of the BSGIE Board members. Applicants who are also member of the Board are excluded from voting. The grant may not be attributed if the jury estimates that no candidate is eligible.
  10. Half of the amount of the grant is awarded at the time of presentation of the results of the research project during a BSGIE meeting (BSGIE session at the Belgian Week of Gastroenterology or BSGIE annual meeting). The second half of the amount of the grant is awarded at the time of publication of the results as a manuscript. The manuscript should include the BSGIE grant in the acknowledgments.
  11. The grant application must be addressed to the Secretaries of the BSGIE before 31 December of each year, together with a curriculum vitae of the main applicant at info@bsgie.org.

 

  1. b. BSGIE Travel grant:

BSGIE provides travel grants to encourage young researcher to present their scientific results in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy at international congresses.

Rules:
  1. The travel grant is a financial compensation for congress expenses (registration, transportation and/or accommodation) for the applicant who is the first author of an oral or a poster presentation at an international congress. The topic of the presentation deals with gastrointestinal endoscopy.
  2. The financial compensation is 350 euro maximum for a poster presentation and 700 euro maximum for an oral presentation for the applicant who must be the abstract’s first author.
  3. The applicant is a member of the BSGIE and not older than 40 years of age at the time of the grant application.
  4. Multiple travel grant applications are allowed, but it can only be awarded once per year to the same applicant (irrespective of the type of presentation). In total, the travel grant can only be awarded twice to the same applicant.
  5. The applicant must submit the abstract and the proof of acceptance (usually an email) for presentation to the BSGIE secretary at least 4 weeks before the start of the international congress.
  6. The BSGIE Board members review the travel grant application within these 4 weeks.
  7. Within 8 weeks after the congress the applicant provides the BSGIE secretary (info@bsgie.org) with the original invoices and receipts (registration, transportation and/or accommodation) in order to be reimbursed. When the invoices are less than the maximum amount to be reimbursed (350 euro maximum for a poster presentation and 700 euro maximum for an oral presentation at an international congress), the rest will remain property of the BSGIE.
  8. BSGIE will be acknowledged as a financial sponsor of the research project (poster presentation, oral presentation and publication). The BSGIE president will announce the winners of the BSGIE travel grants during one of the BSGIE scientific meetings.

Objective: to award the best oral presentation of the BSGIE session at the BWGE.

Amount: 250€

  1. BeSPGHAN - "The Samy Cadranel Travel Award"(http://www.bespghan.be/NL/travel.php)

 

To commemorate his contribution to Paediatric Gastroenterology and to perpetuate his efforts and his name, the council decided to establish a TRAVEL AWARD to pursue training in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

The travel award is intended to support the expenses of up to 1,500 euros of an Investigator, working at a Belgium Center, committed to Paediatric Gastroenterology, who wishes to travel and visit another unit either for the purposes of learning a new technique, of carrying out a short project or of observing a different system at work.

Applications and a letter of support from a Full Member of the Society should be submitted to the Secretary of the BeSPGHAN. The deadline for applications is October 31th preceding that of the Award, who will be attributed yearly, at the General assembly during the Belgian Week of Gastro in February.

The attribution will be decided by the Council of BeSPGHAN at majority and by secret vote after discussion of the projects. The Award Winner will be required to submit a short, written report of the visit within 6 months after completion, and this will be presented at the next Annual General Assembly of BeSPGHAN.
